Analysis: Events
"Human Spaceflight and the Future of Space Science"
"As the Obama administration prepares to unveil its plans for NASA and the USA human spaceflight program, experts on space policy will convene in Washington DC on January 14 for a symposium on this topic. Scott Pace (TR), Director of the Space Policy Institute, will open the symposium with introductory remarks before a session on 'Science, Human SpaceFlight and Congress' featuring representatives of the House Committee on Space Aeronautics and the Senate Commerce, Science and Transportation Committee. GWU professor Pascale Ehrenfreund (CL) and Stephen Katz of NIH will discuss the current state of human space flight, and Tom Cremins of NASA will give a talk with Len Fisk of the University of Michigan on 'Science and Human Space Flight Tomorrow.' Princeton University Professor Christopher Chyba (BR) is scheduled to give the closing keynote address. Universities Space Research Association (USRA) is cosponsor of the symposium. With a membership including 104 universities, USRA's mission is to advance the space-related sciences, develop and operate premier facilities and to promote space policy. Innovation in Aerospace | A Workshop
The Workshop examined the challenges, lessons, and applicability of the information technology industry's practices for the aerospace community and the experience that innovative firms have had in working with government agencies. Two of the presentations have been put online after the event. Panel I covered "Introducing Silicon Valley to Aerospace" and Panel II covered "Public-Private Partnerships".
Government, Aerospace & Space Industry Knowledge
An introductory short course will be presented for non-industry attendees that covers the basic information needed to understand the Aerospace & Space industries and their relationship to government and supply-chain issues. Taught by an expert and specialist in these areas from CSA.
CubeSat Community Website - Developers' Workshop 2009
The next CubeSat Developer's Workshop is coming to San Luis Obispo, Apr 22-25th. New "nanosat" development and flight opportunities are emerging within the academic, industry and government sectors, and are now global in scope. The workshop concludes with an Aerospace Expo outreach event for students of all ages and teachers.
Space Economy Symposium
Will be a half-day meeting (March 13, 2009) at the Dept of Commerce of industry, government and entrepreneurs reviewing issues related to the importance of space commerce for U.S. competitiveness in the global marketplace.
CANEUS 2009 Workshops - NASA Ames Research Center
“A highly-formatted workshop will be held with a focus on commercialization of advanced technologies in the areas of: small satellites, fly-by-wireless, micro-energetics, optoelectronics, harsh environment sensors, and reliability. The end result will be a neutral virtual business model for international collaboration that brings the best solutions to the boardroom so that well-informed decisions on new program starts, whether it be research, test and evaluation, or introduction of new products to the end user can be made quickly and confidently.” Detailed information is available for this event on this site.
Space 3.0 - Emerging Commercial Applications for Small Satellites
“Radical advances in small satellite technology are fast approaching, which will allow innovators to create from today’s “garages” powerful consumer and commercial nanosatellites. This new era of entrepreneurial space will create a market where companies and educational groups can design, build and operate small, highly functional spacecraft (eSats). Join SEF Spaceworks, Stanford University, Aviation Week and other sponsors on March 24 in Palo Alto, California for a unique workshop exploring the emerging commercial and educational uses and applications for these eSats. Space is limited so register now.”
Sustainable Urban Development: Facing Challenges in the SF Bay Region with Support by the NASA Ames Research Center
“The key workshop goal is to explore and document how NASA technologies, such as remote sensing, climate modeling, high end computing and visualization along with NASA assets such as Earth Observing Satellites and Unmanned Aerial Vehicles can contribute to creating and managing a sustainable urban environment. This will be accomplished by bringing together NASA scientists, city planners, local, state and federal resource agencies, utilities, businesses, and others who are involved in managing aspects of the urban environment. The focus will be on the greater Bay Area, but many aspects of the workshop will be applicable to urban management at the local, regional and global scales.”
