"Human Spaceflight and the Future of Space Science"
"As the Obama administration prepares to unveil its plans for NASA and the USA human spaceflight program, experts on space policy will convene in Washington DC on January 14 for a symposium on this topic. Scott Pace (TR), Director of the Space Policy Institute, will open the symposium with introductory remarks before a session on 'Science, Human SpaceFlight and Congress' featuring representatives of the House Committee on Space Aeronautics and the Senate Commerce, Science and Transportation Committee. GWU professor Pascale Ehrenfreund (CL) and Stephen Katz of NIH will discuss the current state of human space flight, and Tom Cremins of NASA will give a talk with Len Fisk of the University of Michigan on 'Science and Human Space Flight Tomorrow.' Princeton University Professor Christopher Chyba (BR) is scheduled to give the closing keynote address. Universities Space Research Association (USRA) is cosponsor of the symposium. With a membership including 104 universities, USRA's mission is to advance the space-related sciences, develop and operate premier facilities and to promote space policy. NASA Earth System Science at 20 Symposium
"A three-day symposium bringing together researchers, managers, and policy makers to examine the 20-year history of the NASA Earth system science program and its future. Event Sponsors/Hosts: NASA's Science Mission Directorate, Earth Science Division, Washington, DC, in collaboration with the National Academy of Sciences' Ocean Studies Board, Space Studies Board, and Board on Earth Sciences and Resources." There is significant linkage of the agenda of this event to climate change monitoring with potential commercial space applications. Open to the media and the public.
Symposium on Solar Energy from Space | SPACE Canada
“SPACE (Solar Power Alternative for Clean Energy) Canada is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to the promotion of solar energy from space; an abundant and sustainable source of safe, affordable clean energy for the world. They are holding an international symposium on solar power satellites from September 8-10, 2009 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. John Mankins and Dr. Nobu Kaya, co-chairs of a recent IAA (International Academy of Astronautics) Study have committed to holding a two-day technical session in conjunction with SPACE Canada’s symposium where the conclusions of the IAA Study on solar energy from space will be presented. Approximately 100 technical papers are expected to be presented in concurrent workshops. SPACE Canada will host a one-day international policy forum following the technical session of the IAA.
