Magic in the Mojave: NewSpace Visionaries Live Here

This video takes you into the soul of the Mojave Air & SpacePort, a very special zone in the California desert where advanced technologies are developed that can take us to the edge of space and can send small spacecraft into Earth orbit.  It's the Silicon Valley of advanced air and space technologies.

Science For a Hungry World | NASA Goddard Spaceflight Center

If a particular region is going to have a bad harvest, FEWS NET looks at the strength of the community. They look at how much was produced in previous years. Is this the first bad year after many good years or is it the fifth bad year in a row? So it's all about context. If we understand the context, we can then provide accurate early warning of a crisis before it comes down the pike."

"Satellite remote sensing, particularly with vegetation, because of its certainty and reliability across space and time has really come to be absolutely critical in trying to determine when there's a problem. and when action is required. Having that early look at production that we get from remote sensing observations is critical to having the pieces in place and the analysis done and the people forewarned so that if there is a requirement for sending out food assitance, we will have all the little pieces in place so that we can do that in a rapid way."

Burt Rutan: Entrepreneurs are the future of space flight | You Tube

"In this passionate talk, legendary spacecraft designer Burt Rutan lambasts the US government-funded space program for stagnating and asks entrepreneurs to pick up where NASA has left off."  Rutan shares his vision for how the emerging commercial space industry can help inspire the next generation to become the innovative pathfinders to the future.

Planetary Skin - Cisco's Video Story

“Planetary Skin is a massive system for global-monitoring of environmental conditions that will enable effective decision making in the private and public sectors and in communities, using data collected from myriad sources including space, airborne, maritime, terrestrial and people-based sensor networks. Data will be analyzed, verified and reported over open standards-based Web 2.0 and 3.0 collaborative spaces for decision makers.”

Water Purification System for Space & Earth: A NASA SBIR-funded Sucess Story

UMPQUA Research Company (URC), founded in 1973 by David F. Putnam and Gerald V. Colombo, offers technical services in four primary areas: 1 Drinking Water and Environmental Analysis, 2 Air and Water Purification Related Engineering Services (including NASA Flight Hardware), 3 Research & Development, and 4 Materials Testing. Working with NASA and major aerospace firms, URC has established a reputation of excellence within the Regenerative Life Support community that is unequaled by any other small business. The developed a biocontaminant prevention system on NASA SBIR grant funding for the Space Shuttle, the EVA backpack system. It has been successfully commercialized for Earth applications in 3rd world nations.

Reaction Engines Limited :: Skylon : Operations Animation

An impressive video depicting a future RLV spacecraft using reaction engines that propel it from an airport takeoff to an altitude where the rocket function kicks in and it goes into Earth orbit.

Living and Working in Space Movie - Spaceports

“Spaceports: Whether you’re talking about privately owned and operated rockets to ferry cargo to low earth orbit, or the customers already in line for the opportunity to weightlessly gaze upon Earth from outer space, the “personal space flight revolution” will bring a new element of infrastructure to our communities” Spaceports both proposed and in development across the US are profiled in this 12 minute video. Since this was made in 2005, SpaceShipTwo has passed a successful test flight and Virgin Galactic has signed an agreement with that company to provide spacecraft and with SpacePort America in New Mexico to fly passengers to the edge of space. Much progress has been made in the last 4 years and is continuing.

Powering the Planet - Space Based Solar Power (Space Futures Channel)

On October 10, 2007, a report was released by the Pentagon on the feasibility of developing space solar power systems that transmit unlimited energy to Earth. This 20 minute video provides an overview of current concepts and development in this area which, if it could be developed, would provide a new major clean power source for the planet and produce major commercial benefits.

Google Tech Talk on Space Solar Power

A Professor Emeritus of Physics and former Chair of the Department of Applied Science at New York University, leads a Google TechTalks discussion on the future of energy systems and how global warming, overpopulation, depletion of resources, poverty, and water purification will need to be handled in the future as carbon-based energy resources are depleted. The need for energy source transformation is described that will enable us to fuel our high tech civilization. The benefits are presented for renewable energy from both space and terrestrial-based alternative systems.
