“Now that NASA has given Orbital Sciences and SpaceX the go-ahead for the commercial delivery of cargo to the ISS—and there are rumors that the long-awaited COTS D award for crew transportation services to the station is in the works—its time to look at what should come next. The COTS (Commercial Orbital Transportation Services) program has done more than anything else to institutionalize NASA’s relationship with the “NewSpace” industry. It shows that the agency can get beyond its relationship with the big aerospace firms and allow the up and coming entrepreneurial companies to win substantial contracts.”
